Maptive: Creating Your First Map

Hi and welcome to Maptive. In this quick tutorial I’m going to show you how to create your first map. Once you’re on your home screen, click on this button on the top right to create a new map. Here you’ll name your new map. Hit continue.

In this section, you’ll be able to either copy and paste your spreadsheet, choose your excel file, start from scratch, or select a google sheet. For this example I’m going to select my file.

This is the file for my map. Once the data is loaded the program is going to open up this dialog box with match up. This is strictly for your address information in section one. So only address columns should be matched in my data. I have an address column, a city column, state column, zip code, and I also have latitude and longitude. You don’t need to have latitude and longitude. This is just the way mine is set up. If you have no country column, nothing should be matched to this. Address line 2, which is usually suite number or space number does not need to be matched either as google does not geocode that information.

In the second section, you can match name to name. The second one, location description should always match to the remaining columns if you’ve got a website column you can match to website. If you’ve got a location image column you can match that to location image and if you’ve got an email column you can match to email. For email and website this will hyperlink it in the marker pop-up. Once you’ve made all of your selections hit done, the geocoding will begin. Once those markers are on the map you can quickly refresh your screen, and the map will automatically zoom in, and that’s how you create your first map. Thank you for watching have a wonderful day!

Maptive: Marker Grouping Tool

Welcome to Maptive. In this video, we’re going to talk about grouping your markers. This is changing the colors of your markers based on a column in your data and the groups within that column. You can get to the grouping tool by clicking on the toolbox here on the top left corner of the map itself. The toolbox opens up to the grouping tool. You can click the pull down which gives us every column in our data. This is every column in my data so yours will look different. You can Group by any column in that data that makes sense to, group by address doesn’t really make sense to group by, but you can Group by state or sales person or even sales. I’m going to choose salesperson for my example. Here this groups my markers in different colors based on the sales person that covers those groups. You have the ability to customize each group’s markers as well just by clicking on this gray marker to the right of each group. You can filter the map just as you would with any filter type tool so if you just wanted to see all of Giovanni’s markers you can simply do that. You do have the ability to do two column double grouping this adds a secondary group to the markers. This again will give you the pull-down showing all the different columns in your data, and I’m going to choose sales for this one. This will root my sales in this way that’s what those little Halos are now, and you can customize those as well. You also have the ability to switch this over to numeric since I am doing numeric value, and that’s going to switch it to these different size bubbles you can go into group settings to set those numeric values to change the number of groups or even change from the blue bubble markers to multi-color bubble markers to remove the secondary grouping. All you would need to do is uncheck this box and to remove the initial grouping you would simply go to the pull down again, choose don’t group, and then your map will go back to the original markers where it all began. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Maptive. Thank you for watching, have a great rest of your day, bye thank you.

Maptive: Map Marker Filtering Tool

Welcome to Maptive. In this video we’re going to show you how to use the filtering tool you’ll be able to filter by group number, text, date and attribute.

To get to the toolbox you click on top left corner of the map. This opens into the grouping tool, but each of tabs on the outside get us to a different tool.
The very first time you come into filter tool, filter settings will open up
automatically.

But if you ever need to get to it again, it’s right here filter settings, just click open.
On the left side are all of the column headers in my data.

These are on by default. You can turn them off once you’ve chosen a filter
type, you don’t have to worry about turning it off. If there is no filter type then the shared users will not be able to access it. So, for my example today, I’m going to choose a few of the different filters. I’m going to filter my name column by text,
I’m going to filter my sales column, any numeric value, by number.

I’m going to group my salesperson column because I’ve made sure that all of my
dates are formatted in the same way. I’m going to be able to filter by date as well and
you choose the way you’ve written out your dates attributes are several numbers that are separated by semicolon, and the attribute filter recognizes the semicolon and breaks up that information.

Once you’ve added all of the filters that you’d like, you see that these
switches turned on as I turned on the

filters. We give you the ability to share your filters with your shared users if
you share your map these switches turn that particular filter off for the
shared view so they won’t have access to that particular filter.

Once you’ve got everything set the way, you want click done and then we will see our filters appear within the filter tool.

Name by text simply gives us the ability to search by name in only the name column. You have the ability to choose “or” or “and”. “And” contains equals and everything you
would expect in a search type filter. My numeric filter gives me this slider bar and i
can simply slide this over to filter the map.

You also have the ability to set the exact range, so if i wanted this to be 12000 i can set that slider bar for me. You can use all of the filters all at once I just don’t have very many markers so I clear them as I move forward.

Salesperson by group gives us a list of the sales people, and then I can filter by any sales person whose markers i’d like to remain on the map.

My date column, the from date is the earliest date in my date column, the to date is the latest date in my date column and you can search between those dates for any date
range.

Lastly the attributes are now broken out into individual groups I can choose, for
instance, energy it’s going to remove all the markers that do not have the attribute energy and this is what that data looks like within the spreadsheet.

If you ever need to remove any of these filters, you can clear the filters that you’ve got filtered going you also have the ability to come back into filter settings to turn off any filter you don’t wish to share.

If you have any questions, as always, feel free to reach out to us here at Maptive.

Thank you for watching and have a great day. Bye.

Maptive: Customizing Map Markers

Hi and welcome to Maptive. In this video we’re going to show you how to customize your map markers. There’s several ways to go about doing this, depending on what you’re looking to do. So to change all of the markers on your map, go to map settings, here in the gears on the top left, and we’re going to go to map markers and graphics. You can use the pull down or if you’re more visual like i am we’re going to scroll down towards the bottom and go to customize all markers. Ignore my pictures at the top for a moment these are the markers that come pre-loaded in Maptive. Each one of those has 25 different colors to choose from. You also have the ability to upload your own custom markers. The maximum size of those custom markers is 70 by 70 pixels. If your picture or marker is larger than that it will shrink it down to that maximum size. Once you’ve made your choices, you can simply click save at the bottom. If you’re wanting to change the colors of your markers based on a particular group, you’ll have seen this in our grouping tool video, but you’ll go to the grouping tool and group by one of the columns in your data, and then from there, you can then customize each group’s markers simply by clicking on the gray marker to the right of each group. By clicking on this you see we come right back to that customize group markers the same thing that we saw earlier lastly and we don’t necessarily recommend this as we’ve got the grouping tool set up for you. You do have the capability of editing individual markers if you wish but again better to use the grouping tool in that scenario. If you have any questions at all please never hesitate to reach out to us here at Maptive. Thank you for watching have a great day.
